I have not confirmed this, but when you save a track and start a new one, do the Track Time, Track odometer reset to zero? I just manually clear them each time I begin a new track. Is that step necessary?

The Main Menu/Start button resets just about everything when it start a new track. This includes the Trip Odometer, all the timers, and the Average Speed and Moving Average.

It also cancels the active route, which is rather annoying. You have to start a new track, then start the route.

For my purposes, I am an avid hiker, I use my 610 to get me to the trail head, vehicle mode, then I either delete the track or start a new one when I begin hiking.

I do not want my road stats combined with my trail stats. Any geocaches I have downloaded along the trail just add to the enjoyment of the hike I am on.

I have not confirmed this, but when you save a track and start a new one, do the Track Time, Track odometer reset to zero? I just manually clear them each time I begin a new track. Is that step necessary?

Yeah, when I tap yes to continue off road it should change the profile, not the routing mode in the vehicle profile.
After all, I'm no longer in my vehicle because the road ended.
So the simplest thing to do is just say no, change profile and start a new route to the geocache.
Another minor irritant to try to remember how to avoid.

When I am in vehicle mode driving to a cache and reach the end of the road my 710 asks if I want to continue off road.
I tap yes and continue the search for the cache on foot but the smart arrow no longer works unless I cancel the route and start again in geocaching profile.
Or I can continue without the smart arrow but when I'm back in the truck and go to the next cache the driving directions don't work until I reset the profile to vehicle even though it says it's still in vehicle mode.

So now, if I remember to, I change profile to geocaching before it asks if I want to continue.
Or I tap no, the route is canceled, I change profile to geocaching and start a new GO TO to the same cache.
It seems like a time saving option, but it doesn't really save any time at all.

That's what I do as well Phil and I find it a bit confusing to say the least. Getting to the Route Option as Morel explains is also cumbersome and I don't really get it.

Yep, I do love my 710. Warts and all!
I just want to remind the programming team that there are still some problems, not major problems but problems none-the-less.

Yeah, the number of options to turn on or off would be endless but I wouldn't want to turn them off if they worked in the first place. :silly:

And as somebody else said on this forum awhile ago, finding work a-rounds for several different programming glitches gets old in a hurry and gives the product a bad name.
Plus it's starting to get difficult to remember all the different work a-rounds.

Like make sure you dump the geocache picture file now & then and reset some settings, not all settings but just some of them even though it looks like everything is set right.

I would go on but I can't remember all the little quirks like keeping the battery setting on alkaline to stop it from shutting down prematurely. ;):woohoo: 😉

I understand the point, and it would be nice if it knew you got back in the truck to drive to the next cache. But we know it is not changing the profile, only the route option. As it stands, it is great for someone that wants to be road routed to the first cache in an area, and then proceed on foot to find several more in the area. It really is not difficult to change the route options or cancel a route or go into a different profile. The number of options to turn off or on to satisfy everyone's specific needs would be endless....hmmm, voice commands??? :silly:

Sorry Phil, I know you love your 710, and I also think it is great. We wouldn't have this helpful forum if there wasn't something to complain about 😉

Thanks Phil, I will try it out on my eX710 and see if it does the same thing. If I can, I'll then send it on to Magellan. If I can't, then we'll try to figure out what is going on.

Thanks again,
David
