The geocache proximity alarm is for the geocache you are on a Go-To route to.
I don't normally use it so I just went out and tried it on my cache that's 350 feet from my house.
When I'm on a route to another cache I get no alarm no matter how close I am to my cache.
When I have no route selected I get no alarm walking right up to my cache.
When I set a route (go-to) my cache the alarm sounds when I get to the distance set (50 feet)

When in trouble or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout

It looks like the geocache alarm does not work reliably when driving at highway speed or rural road speed. I set the geocache alarm to .25 miles to pick up any caches near the drive. I can open the geocache screen and see that a number of caches are closer then .25 miles but the alarm does not sound. I have noticed that if I am driving slower (especially when arriving to a parking spot near a cache) the alarm works. There is definitely a problem and it might be related to speed of travel.
