So maybe that's what's going on. We know that you need to check the HTML box to put a photo in the descriptions. So when you do a simple cache with 2 or 3 lines of text, you don't check the box. But if you do, each time you press Enter for a line break, they get removed, because you have to manually put a line break in there if the box is checked.

So maybe someone puts a couple of Enter-enter type line breaks in a listing, but checks the box anyway. And if the box isn't checked, the listing appears normal. In html, you need to do
for an Enter, 2 for a blank line.

This make sense to anyone else ? at least I understand myself !

(Thanks K14HLW, but I'm still crazy anyway... lol !)

I got good news, your not going crazy after all

From GC.com update post:
16670: line breaks not honored in Short Description
No longer stripping line breaks from cache short descriptions

At least not about this 😉

Yeah, I looked at about a dozen GPX files at random and saw the ones not loading correctly all had "

" codes in it for line breaks or other html codes.
Is this a new development from recent GC.com updates?

There doesn't seem to be anything we can do about it so we will have to live with it I guess.

I think I'll go on GC.com forums & see if anyone has complained or commented on this.

I'm staying in the house anyway (raining here in Boston) and watching CNN,
8.9 earthquake in Japan, tsunami in Japan, Hawaii and west coast of US!

Ok, I took a look at this and the problem isn't with the GPS nor is it with Communicator, VP or GSAK - the problem is with the GPX files from GC.com!

I took a look at GC155GY just as Phil suggested and if you look at the HTML as display on the GC.com website it contains SEVERAL "

" codes in it for line breaks.

However, when you download the GPX file you'll notice that they're gone. So there is nothing that Magellan or any of our software can do about this, because GC.com is stripping it!

I tried those two caches from GSAK & GC.com and got the same results as pprass.
Then I looked at a lot other caches I have on the 710, any cache with pictures comes up perfect no matter how it was loaded.
Caches with-out pictures seem to be random, some come up with the text correct and some come up just a slab of text, either with GSAK or GC.com as the loading method.

I didn't try VP.

I never really noticed this before, all I cared about was the pictures and didn't pay much attention to the text. So I don't know if it's a recent problem or has always been like this.

Can you please send me the GC code for the cache that you tried so I can check it out? I have an idea as to what might be going on, however, until I see an example I can't say for certain.

Ok - I downloaded a test cache direct from the GC.com site to the GPS and then I tried loading from the GC.com site to VantagePoint and then onto the GPS.

In both instances I get no HTML format. I can see some of the HTML code such as [purple] [b] etc, but the text appears just like it does when I download from GSAK - one uninterrupted slab of text.

However I found that the cache pages that I previously downloaded from GSAK and that have photos in them are ok! The formatting is perfect when a photo is included in the cache page

Hmmmm, I'll have to check that out, since the eX-Series units don't need the HTML removed like the Tritons do, because the eXs have built in browser capabilities...

It would seem that the most recent GC.com update might have a partial fix for this issue, I read about it last night, something about leaving the paragraph and/or line breaks intact while removing the remainder of the html. I could be wrong, but if anyone wants to check on it, go to the GC.com Forums, and it's in the Site Updates section. There's a list of the updated items on there, it's at the very least an education article to read.

I'm normally not in that big of a hurry so I just let VP download my PQs since I'm normally loading several GPSrs anyway and I'm not having any problems with mine...

Ahhh - good point!

I am loading via GSAK. Does it appear correct via VP? (I don't download via VP 'cause it's so slow!)

I already went through the hoops with Clyde from GSAK to get the photos downloaded, so do I have to do it again

Are you loading the unit with Vantage Point or GSAK?

Not so much a bug, but something I wish could be improved.

Text layout of the cache page when loaded onto the eXplorist is just one huge slab of plain text. The only break is between the short description and the long description. This makes it tricky when following instructions or using a formula for a multi. It seems that my 610 ignores all HTML formatting and just runs the lines one after the other - no spaces, indentations, highlights, underlining, bold, colours etc.
