Hmm...can't get that link to work but I get the general gist of where you're trying to send me so I'll do a search for that extracting geodata referenc from geotiff.
Looks like our state is currently in a 3 year program to acquire a RGBI Lidar 1 ft resolution and YIPEE! Center of the state is complete! This looks VERY promising if I can get it all to come together.

LOL Ok....Yeah, I've been trying to get the entire state imaged and so far have the center to the bottom done. Now just need the top half of the state and I'll be happy. I sometimes take wild weekend adventures and never know where I'll end up so would like to be ready for just about anything. Not actually "used" every square mile of what I've made but would be nice to have it available and not have to wait for it to be created is what I'm looking for. I typically utilize zoom 16,17, and 18 and that pretty much takes care of what I want. Right now, I'm trying to look into the ArcGIS database that our local university has online with 2011 satellite imagery. Just trying to get for free what vantagepoint offers at a subscription. Gotta be a way to do it but so far looks like they provide several different formats for download including something called a geoTIFF tile....Dunno what that heck that is yet, just getting started.
