Your best bet is to get the RAM mount.
That slim mount is not from RAM and won't hold an explorist, it's made for cell phones.
Get the vehicle power cord from Magellan or any generic power cord with a mini usb plug to power it from the car.
The RAM mount holds it and it will stay in the mount no matter what.
Go here - Phil's demo video - to see the RAM mount.
When in trouble or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout

This looks good. Do you know for a fact that this particular mount will work with the Explorist X10?
Also, the Explorist doesn't need to be directly under a window for it to work inside the car?

I have a 710 and all I do is lay it on the console between the seats an it works fine, I also use power source USB plug in so not to rundown batteries however you could pick up a Rammount like this

I've got an Explorist 710 on the way. Although primary use will be for hiking, I'd also like to use it for directions while driving. I understand that the screen will be too small to actually read while driving. That being said, can I simply lay the 710 on top of the dash, or do you guys recommend a windshield mount or ???
TIA
