The output from a computer's usb port is only about 500 mA. Since the battery pack you are trying to charge is 10,000 mA, it would take at least 20 hours to charge it from your computer. Computer's vary of course. If you have a 2A wall USB charger the time would be reduced to 5 hours. That battery pack has a lot of capacity!

Make sure you read any documentation that came with the battery pack, you would not want to over heat the unit when charging it.

Most definitely charge it with anything other than the computer. My external battery takes forever on the computer, but will charge in an hour or so on the wall charger than came with it, and since all USB devices work on the same standard voltage you should be fine.

Hi All,
Based on the great review I bought the Hyperkin power pack. I got it yesterday & plugged it into my computer to charge, after 20 hours or so the red light is still blinking. How long does it take to charge? Also, can I use my iPod touch AC adapter to charge the unit instead of the computer?

Thanks for all the info---Bostonmom

My Hyperkin 10000 mAh just showed up today.
$24.95 with free shipping on Amazon and it took 3 days to get to me.
It is Lithium-Ion so will be good for hundreds of charges.
I'm a real battery hog, leave the light on, run the compass & barometer and take pictures and videos.
This pack looks good, it's barely bigger and weighs just a bit more than a pack of cigarettes.
I'll put it through it's paces in the next few days but it's much better than carrying a bag full of batteries around.

I second Sarge, nice find Sorceress!

Thank you Sarge. I have had the battery pack for over two years and use it for my Triton 500, 2000,MP3 Player and now my 610.

I have never counted the number of recharges but I do believe the battery is a Lithium-Ion and should be good for many a hundred charges.

$26.82 & this item ships for FREE with Super Saver Shipping. This is through Amazon....Nice find Sorceress, have you used the Hyperkin unit long? I'm interested in how it stands up to multiple charges and discharges.

I like to keep my backlight on long and find that this practice really shortens the battery life on my 2950 mAh rechargables.

I recently attached a HYPERKIN 10000 mAh external battery pack to my 610 and found that this pack alone contributes about 40 hours of service.

I just hooked the mini USB to my Explorist and the larger USB to the HYPERKIN.

I charge the Hyperkin with a standard AC adapter which has a miniUSB.

Short of the story, is that I am not worried about running out of power since the battery pack delivers for about 40 hours and when it is depleted the internal rechargables automatically take over.

Just thought you all would like to know.
