I have an eXplorist 710 unit that had its internal memory wiped. I can connect
it to my computer and transfer files back and forth, I just do not
have the program files that I need to get the unit working again. does anyone know where to get and how to install the files I need to getting it working again?

I have an eX710 and web space, so if you want to contact me I'll see about giving you a hand; if you want to try it!!! If not JG can absolutely fix it.

@ Mike and/or JG, please pin, write in big red letters and on every page: Before start using your device, make a copy of all files, that are stored on the device.

We've done this in the german forum LINK

Steffen,

Maybe Magellan should post a message in the packaging of each unit sold to that effect.

However, if they did this then their Customer Service people could probably fix more problems and eliminate a lot of returns. But heck to them it is just as easy to replace all units and keep Smyrna busy.

I am sure that one of the members can direct you to a set of files. However; two cautions, one is that you probably have lost the USA Summit and City maps and they will have to be replaced.

The maps are synchronized to the serial number of the GPS so you will need new maps. Second is that sometimes the direct replacement of the remaining files can cause you to have problems.

I would recommend that you have our Organization repair the unit and we can also replace your maps with the USA and add the Canada maps for a reasonable inexpensive cost.

Please either visit our GPS Store on this site or go to http://jungleghost.com/Explori.....cart.shtml for details on this service.

Labrat,

JG asked me to explain why copying a complete set of files from a different GPS to a wiped out unit could be bad. In this case, the definition of a complete set of files is assuming to be some other GPS units COMPLETE files and not just firmware update files.

Some of the units (depending on the serial number) had some running changes and their base files are different than others. So when you copy a set of files to an EMPTY unit you may load the unit with the WRONG basic files and get into trouble.

In our facilities, we have TWO sets of files that we use to completely create a new system install. They are based on two different criteria. We call one of the set a "NOR" set and the other an "iNOR" set. Installing the incorrect one is not possible in our sets because of some safety ID codes. But if you copy a iNOR or NOR set from someone else GPS to your GPS you will have problems if they do not match your units needed criteria.

He noticed a conversation between David and Denisetdoris (Denis). David made the correct statement that you should disassemble the firmware .exe file by changing the program name extension from .exe to .zip. This is a good solution because the firmware update ONLY contains files which can be overwritten to the GPS. This is a safe method.

So all members should be always aware that if you COMPLETELY wipe out the F:\Magellan files and Directories .. you should always have a copy of your original files on the computer and use these for the reloading of the F:\Magellan drive. This copy will also contain your correct serial numbered maps, etc.
