Hi Sockeye,

The link to RMP_Tools doesn't work.

Please can you fix it?

Thanks

Tony

I just ordered an Explorist 610 yesterday. Sending back my Triton 300. Interesting story here:

I had an Explorist 210, which I liked. I went to upgrade the firmware, and this thing was already way past warranty.

The thing crashed and I had a nice little brick. I called Magellan, not expecting anything really, but they sent me a refurbished Triton free!

No questions asked, I just sent my 210 in and received the Triton 300. I thought that was pretty fair.

One other point, the entire process took around 5 days, not bad service.

So now I have traded the FREE Triton 300 in for the Explorist 610. Wow that is just a little less than a 50% discount.

I am looking forward to trying out the custom maps and really appreciate this forum.

Just a quick mention also .... I used your conversion program yesterday again, made a map from a couple of paper map scans, Triton RMP'd them, then loaded them on the 610. Now I know exactly where the Ministry of Natural Resources will let me cut firewood ! Only had one oops, my paper maps were not orientated with the North up, likely magnetic North was straight up... meaning I tried 4 times to RMP them, until I realized I had to turn the images slightly .... lol ! All is good, and thanks again Sockeye !

Thanks Sockeye. I have been trying to figure out how to get my National Geographic Topo! Arkansas USGS shaded maps onto my 610. The closest I came was using Mobile Atlas Creator with the Terraserver USGS maps. This worked fine but the shaded Topo! maps are much nicer to look at. Using Triton RMP is very laboriuos but worth the time and trouble. However without you RMP Fix program I would still be out of luck. Thanks so much for this!
I have a Triton 400 which I love because I could transfer Topo! maps to it directly. I was quite amazed that the far superior 610 was unable to do this. Seems like technology is going in reverse here. The built in maps are ok but can't compare to real USGS maps.
Anyone wanting a new Magellan, keep in mind they are still taking trade-ins. I traded in my old useless Explorist 200 and got my new 610 for $269.00....what a deal!

Thanks again Sockeye dude!

Hey Sockeye,

The problem with the maps is probably my doing, because when I converted the maps I left the "Provider" field empty, because this kept me from having the sorting problem. Since this map set has 113 maps and takes over 13Gb on my HD I don't want to enable all of them at the same time. The odd thing is that they worked fine for a few days and now VP crashes everytime I try to load one of them. However, all I have to edit is edit the maps.xml and everything is fine again....

The good news is that I can still use the old maps in VP and the new maps work fine on the eX710...

Thanks again for the program, it is most definetly a blessing...

I use VP 2.04 with the converted Ontario 052 Area without any problems.

No, I did not experience any issues.

The only thing which may be the case is that VP selects all maps of a group at once. If these maps are very large you could face a memory issue.

Sockeye,

Just wondering - have you had any problem with the converted maps in VP? I've been using the same Satellite maps in VP for several months, but now that I've converted them for the eX-Series they are now causing VP to crash. I was just wondering if you or anyone else has seen this problem.

It's just amazing. I put complete Canada Area052 with 241 single files onto my eX and have to use only one button to have it at hand.
Sockeye yu are the best, thank you.

Wow, this is just about the most convenient file organization setup I've seen on a GPS yet ! Thanks Sockeye, and thanks for answering the next question I was about to ask.... the MOBAC files... lol !

I just gave it a quick run with a few magic maps RMPs I have.

Amazing, even I could get it to work the first time!

Wonderful work on this Sockeye, thank you for all the work you have done making it easy for an old dummy like me to use customized map sets on my GPSr. 😛

Well, now I'm going to miss a few nights sleep playing with some brand new toys for my 710! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Are you serious ? The map menu will actually show a menu identifying the 2 different map sources ?

sure, as many as you want.. But not only grouped by provider, also by product group:

Eg.

Magic Maps (provider)
--Area 82 (map group)
----map1
----map2
----map3
--Area 83(map group)
----map4
----map5
--Area 84(map group)
----map6
----map7
Maps4me (provider)
--Aerial VFR maps(map group)
----US NE
----US SE
----US NW
----US SW
--Alaska Southcentral(map group)
----AK 120k
----Ak 200k
----Ak 50k
----Ak 25k
My HomeBrew (provider)
--Biking maps(map group)
----map10
----map11
--Satellite(map group)
----map12
----map13
----map14

For clarification I added another map group to the provider Magic Maps:

Btw. The tool can also be used to sort your other RMP maps e.g generated by MOBAC. If they are already in the correct format, the fixing is skipped and only the grouping is applied.

Are you serious ? The map menu will actually show a menu identifying the 2 different map sources ? That's too cool !

I'll download and try this later.... Thanks Sockeye !

Hi,

as you all know, Triton RMP created maps and Canada Magic Maps (raster) do not work on the new Explorist series, as they do not supply a compatible format.

I therfore developped a little application "RMP Tools" which can fix this issue and aditionally supports the grouping function of the Explorist and VP.

B)

The tool is simple to use:

You have two items you can edit:

Provider :
You can enter a provider of the map(s), e.g. Willi Weizenkeim, Maps4me, Magic Maps or whatever you like. In my example I used "Magic Maps".

Map Group:
Here you can enter a product group for your maps. In my example, I called this group "Canada BC Area 92".

With a click on the Button "Fix RMP maps" you now can select *.RMP Rastermaps for conversion. Regardless if you only select one or 500 at a time.

Now the maps will be converted and fixed. The original maps are backed up.

After conversion the maps will be shown grouped by provider and product group in VP and on the Explorist.
Here is the dispay of the converted maps in VP:

This is how it looks like on the Explorist 610:

Now you can select / deselect your RMP's groupwise

Please take notice:
- This tool requires Microsoft .NET 3.5 and only runs on Windows systems.

- Do NOT use this tool for locked maps, e.g NG topo maps, as they can become unusable.

Here is the link to the first version: http://maps4me.net/tools/RMP_Tools.zip (150 kb)

Feedback appreciated.
