Hi,

it surprises me, that the Magic Maps RMPs have worked before. They are made with the Triton Raster Map maker from msh-tools.com. The format produced is not up to the "known" Specifications for RMP maps.

I'll release a little tool to heal the maps soon.

Yeah, it's kind of strange behavior.

The RMP did work for me, but I was just trying them again and they don't work!
I don't know what's changed, I tried downloading the Caddy lake rmp map, no go. So I tried the vector map and that works fine.

I'm kind of confused now because I loaded the same rmp map I know worked before, the St. Stephens map, and now it won't work.

But the vector maps work.

Phil, how got you the Magic Maps rmp working on your eXplorist?
I seem to be a bit stuck here. :S
I tried it copying the Maps direct to the eX and also via VP, where they work without a problem.

The .rmp maps from MagicMaps don't work on the x10 series....

... but the .imi and .poi maps do !!! Rename the .imi as .poi and it appears as an overlay map, not an image map, thus you can have the Canada topo map and a Magicmaps .poi enabled at the same time !

This was the CANVEC map. I haven't tried a TopoRama map yet, I find these ones so nice to look at. They're dark, so on sunny days with sunglasses on they're harder to read, but they're much more informative than the standard Topo maps that it's worth the extra effort.

I'll load a couple of the .rmp maps on to see and load images of them soon.

Did you use the vector or the topo map for the screenshot?

Yep, if you ignore it the unit will calibrate itself when you move around but it may take a few minutes.
Or just wave it in the air in a figure eight while bending your wrist for a few seconds (like the instructions on the calibration page says) and bingo, it's calibrated!
Without having to go to the calibration page at all!

:cheer: But with the 710 to recalibrate the compass I just waive it in a figure eight for a few seconds - bingo - it's calibrated! :cheer:

Yup, I agree 110 % for the pain to recalibrate ! I had an indicator to calibrate the compass the first night I got it, and tried but it failed - no doubt because I was in our basement apartment and it's still winter here...

But it seems to be calibrated reasonably well now, I noticed last night that North was actually pointing North, vis-a-vis our apartment which is exactly North-South. Calibration seems to get done by itself... ?

The compass works very nice, it does help in the field, you get a direction without having to move.

Although you can do the same without an EC, just line the image of the sun/moon on the compass with the sun/moon in the sky.

You pay a very small penalty in battery life with it on, but it's well worth it. B)

Personally, I really like the electronic compass on the eX610 & eX710 and I miss it when using the GC or the eX310. I never had a T500 or T2000, just t300, t400s and T1500 so I wasn't used to having the EC. However, it is really nice when you're climbing a steep hill and you don't have to be moving at any particular speed in order for the compass to work... Also, it is nice when I'm standing near a cache looking for it so it always points in the correct direction even when I'm turning in circles.

Yes Phil, that was the goal. Thank you. The good news is I didn't download all those maps for the Triton just to let them go to waste. I can still keep using them !

Another question... on the 610 & 710 there's an electronic compass. I rarely use the electronic feature on the Triton; how about you guys ? Like, when you approach a cache, does the electronic compass help you get a better bearing ?

Just the Magic Maps, I was going to do it with both enabled but I noticed the battery meter as I was taking the screen shots so just did those without the topo.

The unit shut down with dead batteries right after I downloaded the pictures & I figured those were good enough.

It was just to show the rmp maps worked, right?

Phil, are those with JUST the magicmap enabled, or with the Summit series topo at the same time ?

I'll have a 510 on order thru the Magellan Customer Loyalty program this coming week. I have a question about the 3rd party maps that I already have.

I have some .rmp and .imi maps from MagicMaps.ca, that I've been using on my Triton, which is now sold. Will these same maps work on the new Explorists ? I remember reading that some rmp's don't work with them; mobac rmps are ok, but the ones from tritonrmp don't work... Can someone confirm/clarify this, and advise if the .imi and .rmp maps from MagicMaps are ok ?

I'm sure I read about the Maps4Me maps being ok (and saw a screenshot on a x10 unit - wow !)... but am curious about the others. Thanks in advance.
