This is good !!!!
I was also a little frustrated about the lack of my national characters.
But they are all there, and easy to get to.
Thanks for giving them to me !

After two manual download from home and no chance to activate the map, the first try at the office, also manual, worked without a flinch.
Now the map workes great and I'm happy with it. :silly:
But what I never will understand, we have what we call umlaute, like ä (ae), ö (oe), ü (ue) and so forth. Why does magellan use those "umlaute" in the names of towns, roads and other words but does not allow me to enter them when entering an adress?
How shut I be supposed to enter, for an exemple, München as an adress? or Münsterstrasse?
I will put this behavior in the bug list thread and hope it will be changed.

I would try the following:

1) Click the downloaded .exe file
2) Notice the "Map Directory"
3) Cancel the .exe thing
4) Move the downloaded file to the "Map Directory"
5) Click the downloaded .exe file again

If it behaves like my .exe, it should now say "Authorize map" or something like that instead of "Download map".
Click "Authorize map".

It's worth a try.... No garantie.

No chance. I even reactivated the map, got a new link and the same result.
Download starts and it only downloads 576 bytes.
I even tried to download the map over a US Server, same result.
I can't understand why Magellan can't give me the authorization code for the map I downloaded with the alternate link ( the one I got when clicking on DownloadInfo on the Downloadtool )

What makes me also wonder is that my eXplorist has a 13 digit serial number and in the downloadtool there are only the first 12 digits shown. Isn't it so that usually the first 0 was cut off when the number was to long? not the last digit?
At least that is what I remembered from my Triton times

Yes, I received a "Magellan Download" mail. Clicking the link I downloaded a small .exe file to the hard drive.
Clicking this file started the download of the map.

If you have problems now, check if you have the file CS0002WXXEU.zip in any directory. If it's there, delete it, and retry clicking the .exe file.

If you still get a small file downloaded (CS0002WXXEU.zip) Magellan has made an error, and you have to contact them.

Best price for the eXplorist 710 in Germany is 419,- €. Without trade in.

I bought my eX710 in the trade in program,
which cost me 329$ and is less then half the price I would have to pay in europe. They only sold them with Us or probably CA maps. Anyway, I am often in the US and the maps come real handy B)
Now, how did you download your maps? did you receive a Mail from Magellan, with a downloadlink for a downloadtool which downloaded the real map?
That's what I got but it doesn't work, at least not for me, yet. :S

Yes, I have a US version. Got it long before 710 was available in Europe.
And I frequently go to US, so I need the US versions of the maps anyway.
It's a lot cheaper to by the unit in US, and then load the European maps
compared to doing it the other way.
Magellan is no longer present in my country, so local support is not there anyway (which would be the only reason to buy i here).

Why to install another City Map Europe on your 710? It hasn't been preinstalled?

They quickly fixed the problem "We are not shipping to that country".
I successfully purchased and downloaded the City Map Europe yesterday.
I had no problems, and it works really well on the 710.

Strange that you are prompted for a password.

Strange behavior.
I could order the new europe-city series.
Received a confermation mail and a map server mail with a download link.
After downloading the file, it was a downloadtool, I startet it and ...
it only download 576 bytes, regardless how long the tool runs.
The tool has a download file info, there is a link which file needed to be downloaded. Inserting the link in my browser I could download the file, a zip archive. When trying to unpack it I can see that it contains a europ.imi and a poi file, but it asks for a password.
I wrote a mail to Magellan and they already answered, asking more questions but there is no change in status yet.
Hopefully they will help me, at least their reply was fast, compared to earlier times.

Have you registered your eX as US-Model?
Maybe, when you registered as european, it doesn't allow to do so cause it think's that the european map is already on the unit?

It's registered as what it is: A US model. I talked to support in US, and the person I had on the phone agreed that this has to be a "bug" in the system. The deal is that she has requested the internet developers to have a look at this (since this i a valid download). If the problem has not been fixed within a couple of days, she asked med to call back, and they will probably come up with another way to get the map downloaded.

Maybe it's a "bug" on their site, since it says:
"A user supplied 4GB microSD card is required to store the downloaded map. For optimal performance use Class 4 microSD or better."

On the eXplorist 710 routing is working very well (down to grade3 trails) with the Summit + City Europe map in combination with the OSM map as POI-overlay.

So that is not the problem.

Unfortunately the OSM map is not detailed enough and does not contain many small and tiny trails.

No comparison with a professional solution.

Hope to get a TopoHD 2011 with all these wanted features... 😉

I don't know if it will be routable

But WHEN will it be available? Routing is not the most important matter.

For me, the matter is routing availability, I#m happy with Sockeye's OSM maps for everything else. 😉

Hello david,

that's good news to hear. I wondered why they sell GPS with maps but not the maps seperately.
So let's wait a bit longer and see.

From what I've been told! They are coming, however, the eX-Series is still a new line of products that they're still working everything out for them. My understanding is that in the not so distant future we'll be seeing things like this...

I have my eX710 now long enough that I like to purchase the european city series map. But where? It seems to me that this map is part of the european eX610/710 but that it is not sold separately.
Does anyone have any knowledge why maggie is doing this? They sell their new products with severall maps from all parts of the world but do not sell the maps seperately.
For me this seems a bit strange.
I can not be the only one arround who has a problem with that, or do I?
