Oh sorry, I posted here and didn't check back for a week! Thanks for the reply, David. Hope I didn't sound like I was whining, or have an snarky anti-Magellan tone. Not my intention at all.

Firefox and Windows XP, but I'm not at the computer right now, and can't be for like 16 hours to give more info. And I'm not even sure if I'm 32 or 64 bit. But it looks like I don't even have to bother, I will get the update. I can tell you I still did get the pop-up downloading 2 caches last night.

Also first time I've seen my avatar here after it was approved. Doesn't look that great here, but still funny. Because who doesn't love animated avatars?

Yep, this update actually works now for me to.
I am not sure when I actually updated last. I only got my unit in December 2011 and after numerous update attempts, I finally gave up and have been just hitting "cancel".
Anyway, the main thing is that it works now. This is a great, fantastic, awesome, super, tremendous improvement.

I don't know what caused the bug - but I've been using the new version since January.

Hey everyone, Communicator is no longer crying wolf!
There is a new firmware for communicator, Version 1.15.0.20
I just installed it and it works without the hated, dreaded, aggravating, maddening, irritating, infuriating, frustrating, communicator update pop-up.

I wonder when it actually became available?
The last time I tried "The Latest Version" was a week ago.

What we have here is lack of communication between Maggie and her customers.

David, E-mail is sent.

I forgot to mention my Windows Vista is 32 bit.

Here's some cropped shots of what I sent;

After clicking 'Cancel' this is what I get;

Phil,

Can you please snap a screen shot of the pop-up your getting and email it to me... I'm running the Communicator on Windows 7(64) and IE 9 and this is what I see every time.

And this is what it should look like.

Ok - I need some data from you guys so we can find the problem! I need to know the operating system you're using and which internet browser?

Mr. Yuck,

Yes, Magellan does read this forum and yes they do read down this far. You see, although I'm not a paid employee per say, I am working for Magellan as a tester and I'm their eyes and ears not only on this forum, but also on the GC.com forums and the individuals in the office take everything that is said here very seriously. Actually, just so you know, 5 of the top guys from Magellan Outdoors came to Barstow, my home town, earlier this month to field test the eXplorist units just so I could show them a reproduce for them several of this issues that have been put forward via this forum and through the testing that I've been doing.
As far as the Communicator, yes there is a BIG problem with it and it is being addressed. Actually, I just sent another message to them yesturday concerning this issue and I'm hoping to see if fixed in the very near future.

Oh yeah, I see what you're saying. I tried many things myself before resigning myself to the fact you just have to cancel the pop-up and roll with it. True, Magellan may read this forum, but maybe they don't read down this far? Does a moderator have any idea here? Is there any word on when is Magellan going to fix the Communicator on Geocaching.com?

The Explorist GC is a "beginners" GPS, and they are selling them like hotcakes to beginners. And experienced Geocachers like myself whose non-Geocaching wife got them one for Christmas because the price was right. But seriously, this bug looks pretty bad to the newbs, and I can tell you from the Groundspeak forums that some are having trouble figuring out the work-around without asking for help.

Of course I have always known to hit cancel to use it.
I've been using communicator since it was created.
It started doing this after the last communicator update.

I was just trying to see if I updated communicator again it would get rid of the annoyance.
Over the years I have seen some of Magellan's software get corrupted for no apparent reason, so I figured I would clear all Magellan software from the PC and reinstall everything to see if that fixed it.

And communicator still asks if I want the latest firmware.
So, as I have always done after this latest update, I hit cancel to use communicator.

The main reason I posted this thread was to get the attention of the Magellan team, they do monitor this forum.

It seems to be quite well-known in the Groundspeak forums that you have to hit "cancel" when the pop-up asking if you want to update to a newer version of Magellan Communicator comes up, and it works fine after you get rid of the pop-up. I never heard of people rebooting their computers!!

I just told yet another n00b in the Groundspeak forums how to do this, and it's probably the 4th time. I received my Explorist as a Christmas gift 2011, and the bug has been there since day one, for me. Any update from Magellan on when they are going to fix this? They really need to.

I've uninstalled it, RESTART Computer, installed latest communicator, RESTART Computer and it still asks if I want the latest communicator.
I have been repeating that sequence and a few other things several times a week since the latest upgrade came online hoping it will recognize it self.

It does not do this on my other laptop that runs XP, only on the one running Vista.

It is a bit annoying but I can live with it, unhappily. 🙁

I had it do that to me before, but after I had done the upgrade and a RESTART Computer, it quit asking. Funny stuff going on lately.

Why does Communicator keep asking me if I want the latest version of communicator every time I use it?
I have the latest version installed!
It's getting to be very annoying!
