I've had my Magellan 710 for 2 years now and I've got to say the Garmin anything runs circles around it.

I'm not at all happy that I can't get plain white maps like the Maps 4 Me made. I've tried with Maps 4 Me and never got any responce. They made a Wyoming map in plain white and that's it. No more. No responce. The maps that come with the Magellan are not visible in bright light and it makes the GPS useless on a motorcycle for geocaching.

The Navigation screen, the one that I've added the Speedometer and time, with the little geocaching guy at the top, does not follow to the next nearest cache like the Garmins do.

I have to use my iPhone to actually find the cache. I've not been able to get near one with the Magellan. Not EVER. I don't know what it is about it but I walk past the cache about 20 feet or more then it swings around and tells me to go the other way. The iPhone GPS leads me to the cache first time every time. If the iPhone GPS software would automatically follow the caches as I go it would be perfect for Geocaching. But unfortunatly it only does about 30 at a time.

The only advantage I've seen is that the Magellan hold so many caches. That's why I bought it because I don't want to have to reload after a thousand miles or so. It has NO other advantage.

Sorry folks, these issues were brought up early after buying it on the forums and to Magellan. Deaf ears abound. Cry

Jake,

Sorry to hear of your dilemma.  First of all, Alex the hostmaster and creator of Maps4me has an email address: Alex@maps4me.net please give him another try.

Also it comes to mind, that the old Triton maps that Alex made may be better suited for your needs.

Next the readability of the maps in broad daylight is an issue that is caused by the Display Screen supplied with the X10's.

Scuttlebutt has it that a new screen with better daylight characteristics are soon to be made available.

Lastly, some members have reported that engaging the NIGHT MODE all the time, seems to help.

Mike
