My forum chat window using both Chrome and IE 9 do not seem to format properly. Not usable. Running Vindows 7 64 bit. Any suggestions?

The other day my parrot (a large Blue & Gold Macaw) was on my shoulder and fell asleep while I was browsing the board. That chat noise happened and it was so loud he jumped and crapped on my back!

Please, let us turn it off!

Is there any way to turn off that annoying chime sound that comes from (I guess) when people enter or leave the chat area?

I really don't have any interest in chat, but often leave my browser logged in to this site and it frequently spews out those very annoying noises.

I actually have to agree with phild31 on this one. On a forum such as this I feel a live chat feature just encourages conversations be brought offline and not shared with the group and stored for later reference.

I pretty much turned mine offline, though it puts me back online from time to time.

Yeah, I heard a little click and saw an asterisk.
I tried answering, typed a response but couldn't get it to do anything!

I don't know squat about chat lines but the Chat Options thing on the bottom of the page doesn't seem to do anything except make noises when anyone comes on to the forum.
I see the list of online users but the online indicators beside each name are never green.

What in the Heck is this thing supposed to do anyway?

I'm going to set mine to invisible and hope the stupid noises stop.

Just noticed the new chat bar doesn't work well on an iPad. When you load the page it is on the bottom, but when you scroll down the thread it stays moves up and down at the point it was created and hides whatever text is behind it.

I heard a click when the message was sent and an asterisk ( * ) showed on the online users box, no other indication.

Had a chat with Phil. It worked OK but didn't ask Phil what if any indication he received when I initiated the online chat.

Well it works, but no audible signal when someone sends you a message. I would also like the feature of showing the other person typing to respond.

It is set at available.
Try to send a message to me anyway.

Phil, set your status option to online (available). Chat shows you offline, but your status shows you online by your avatar. I want to see how this thing works.

I have no idea if this chat thingy is any good or not.
The chime makes a noise when anybody comes on the forum but does not when a chat message is sent to me.

I have never used a chat line before so that's why I don't know what it is supposed to do.

BTW that chime chirping away every time a user/member comes on the forum is kind of annoying.

It seems that you have to set your status to available manuell.
So if you like to chat, klick on the wheel and then on available.

I assume that for anyone to get a chat message they have to set their chat options to 'Available'

Nobody on the list has a green marker beside their name.

OK, does the 'available' marker beside your name have to be green for you to get my message?

Phil

Go to the online users and click on someone you want to talk (write) to. A page will pop up and you can write something at the bottom where the little speaking bubble is. After writing something hit enter. Somebody should reply, although this has never happened to me 😉

How does the chat work?
I clicked on 'Chat Options' but what's supposed to happen?
I see Set message and status, what in the heck does that mean?

I'm obviously a dinosaur when it comes the chat, chat rooms, chat lines or whatever they are called.

Is it something like twitter or facebook?

I'm beginning to wonder the same thing. I haven't had a person talk to me yet 🙁

So is it going to be a keeper?

That chime is telling you that another member/user has come on line. I think.
On my screen anyway, the bottom right has a little box that says 'Online users. Click that box and it shows a list of users now online.

Not sure if this has anything to do with the new chat program, but I keep hearing a chime sound on my computer when I am logged in to this forum. The chime sounds exactly like the one you hear when you go to chat options and push the test audio button. I hear it every few minutes or so. Not always consistent. Nothing on my screen indicates that someone is trying to chat with me.

Hey Whip,

I really like the new chat - you're so awesome and we really do that you for keeping this forum up and running for us... I guess I probably had better send you something to help with the cost of keeping it going :cheer:

Later,
David

I didn't change the quick reply, but I did clear the cache. Possibly it was never working correctly before?

Looks somehow like Facebook.
You also changed the Quick reply option a bit, right?

You should see a new chat bar at the bottom of your screen. Let me know how it works. There are some formatting issues, but I want to make sure it's a keeper before I dig into the code and fix it.
