350H .. Comments on Unit and Hunting and Fishing Software
The latest entry from Magellan is the 350H. Designed for Hunting we compared it to a 510 - 610 and 710 with the New Kirsch Hunting TRAX and Fishing PRO software installed.

The Magellan Explorist 350H is a new kid on the block. It still is in testing.

The unit will automatically alert the Hunter when they approach any GMU boundary.

Knowing little about the 350H, we compared the specifications to a scenario where we outfitted a 510 - 610 and 710 (X10's) with Kirsch Hunting TRAX software.  Being an OLD TRACKER, I decided to personally test the Kirsch Hunting TRAX and Fishing HOTSPOTS PRO in the X10 units.

The result of my last expedition in the Southeast resulted in my being were impressed with the Kirsch and FHS Software.

I was traveling in UTAH and ARIZONA with a Navajo buddy of mine who years ago was a "Shadow Wolf" for ICE and the USBP.  We hunted for Elk and compared our own information in the field to the software data.

Since we both are in Search and Rescue we added the Fishing Software since it is common practice for use to be out for at least a week and living on the land.

Honestly, we were both very impressed with the larger 3" display (the 350H will only have a 2" display) and the software when installed in the X10's.

We will find out more about the 350H and report it later to the members.

Currently pricing is not available but the 310 with the TRAX software is $230.00 and if you outfit a 510 at a similar price (eBay) with TRAX software then you get the best of both worlds and the 1:24000 TOPO maps for backup.

Now Kirsch Maps are $49.99 each (SRP) and the FHS PRO Lakes are $9.99 each (SRP) and the Fishing HOT SPOTS PRO is $99.99 (SRP) with 4000 Lakes.

So I am wondering why anyone would contemplate these new specialized units versus a loaded 510  >>>>>>>>>   710 unit?

Personally, I cannot believe that the quality of the maps in the 350H will be the same as the full blown Kirsch Hunting Maps.

I can mark Waypoints, Blood Trails, Shot Spots (actually we track so we do not use stands or rushes), etc.

So impressed was I that I contacted our purchasing sources and got a great price for the Kirsch Hunting and Fishing Software.
