OK, I just wanted to make sure you knew about the options on GSAK.

I agree about the maps in VP, unfortunately VP won't let us manage geocache files very easily.
I keep hoping they will improve it, but until Magellan comes up with a usable file system I'll keep using a filtered GSAK database to load VP with geocaches.

I suppose I should create a database (named VP?) of all the geocaches, in every state, I want on VP.
Then it's just update & filter that one big database to load into VP instead of trying to remember what's on it & what I want to keep on it.

When planning a caching trip for the day I have found it's quicker to use the Google map macro on GSAK, then when I'm back home I add caches found and tracks to VP to see where I've been on all those nice maps I've got on VP. 🙂

Yes Phil - that is what I do as well, but I want to view the caches in VP's mapping which I think are the best. I used to use MapSend but the new maps that I loaded from my X10 onto VP are far superior.

If you are from New England or want to see how I set up Pocket Queries for every cache in a state go here - PQs for N.E.

For Nova Scotia go here - N.S. PQs

I like VP for the maps and saving tracks I've made.
But for geocache files I keep a database in GSAK of every cache in Massachusetts.
I will also create databases of where ever I'm going, like my trip to Florida in March.

When I want a file on VP I just dump whatever is on it and import what I happen to want.

It's so much easier to manage a geocache file on GSAK that it makes no sense to attempt it on VP.
You can update the database on GSAK without getting a new Pocket Query.
Then just filter the GSAK database and send only unfound caches to VP or the GPSr from GSAK.
.

About once a month I create a PQ of every new cache in Massachusetts created in the past month.

Look in the file section under tutorials for Pocket Queries & GSAK 101, I posted it there a while ago.
It will explain how to make PQs by date placed for every cache in a state.

David/Phil - yes I use GSAK to create the GPX file of my unfound caches in my state. But the point is how do I remove just that states unfound caches from VP, so that I can import the new file? And without upsetting all my other unfound caches from other states that are in VP.

From Phil's opinion of VP - it looks like we can't do it and we have gone a backward step by losing the "filter by state" function of the previous version.

VP has always been useless for managing geocache files.
Use GSAK, if you want to see a GSAK database on a map get the GSAK macro - Google_Map_V3.gsk
It will show on the map whatever filter you set, like unfound only.

To see what it looks like go here - Phil's google maps

OK - this may be a dumb question, but I just can't work it out! I want to update my unfound caches in a particular state on VP. In the previous version there was a filter where I could filter geocaches by state. Then I would delete just that state's caches. Then create a new GPX file from GSAK for that state of my unfound caches and import it leaving all my other states caches intact.

With this latest version, I can't sort by state, so I have to delete my whole data base out of VP and then load each state back one by one - very cumbersome.

If I just load a new GPX file of the state's caches, then the ones that I have found since the last import will still be there - I only want to see the ones that I haven't found.

How do others handle this process?
