I just learned that there seems to be the wrong coordinate problem with Geocaches again.
I checked 10 caches and all of them had wrong coordinates of +/- 001 or 002 digits. :S
I have a 710 with FW 4.83 and 2500 caches uploaded with GSAK.

Test with 1 cache via send to GPS, same result.

Test with 1 cache copied direkt onto the GPS, same result.

I never recognized this problem before but will watch it.

The lifetime found count should always be there for all the caches you marked 'found' whether you deleted the field note or not, shouldn't it?

The found count does not get smaller (decrement) if you delete a found field note. I found this out when I fat-fingered found on a cache I was about to attempt. I then deleted the field note. When I found it and marked it as found, it counted it again.

Again, far from a show stopping bug but a bug nonetheless.

That is how my 710 works, lifetime found count is unaffected by deleting the field log.

This is a very minor (and probably inconsequential to almost everyone) bug that I ran into today. When deleting your last field note, if it's a "found" field note, it doesn't decrement the GC lifetime count. I've been able to reproduce this consistently in SW v3.22.

I also noticed this but didn't report it because I felt a two foot change wasn't a big problem.

Now I wonder if it rounds up if over half way to the next number or if it's random?

How accurate are these units, will two feet or less matter?

Yes the new firmware will be coming in the near future, but I haven't tried to see if this is fixed or not. But I have forwarded this to Magellan so they will be aware of it.

I have heard rumors of new FW on the horizon. Does anybody of the "insiders" have an update on the topic above?

That's odd - I have been saving voice messages and the "Use SD card for external storage" is checked. No error messages. Have you checked that the micro SD card is properly seated in its holder? When I first received my 610, I couldn't read the SD card drive (nor the map that was on it) until I jiggled the card back into its rightful place.

The other odd thing is that they are being saved in the internal memory and not the SD card as I would have expected?

On my 610, I found that when I created a voice message that I could not save it to the GPS if the "Use SD card for external storage" is checked. The GPS reported a failure error message.

Obviously if I unchecked the SD card feature the messages are saved.

Just thought the members would like to know.

I figured to post this on the Bug list thread;

I've been playing with the unit loading caches different ways.

Pocket queries to VP & then to 710 or straight to gps from GC.com are the only ways, so far, I can get the description pictures onto the 710.
But it does not load all of them, some caches I get the pictures and some caches I don't.

These three of my caches have the same picture on the cache page but they load on my unit 3 different ways, none correctly.
One no pic at all, another the pic is showing partly, the other it seems like a background picture.

GC1J6TW
GC1J6T6
GC1J6VG - oops, just edited this that's a G not a 6 -

This is another of my caches, it loaded it's pictures correctly.

GC16V86

All were loaded by PQ to VP to 710.
It seems to be random.

Finally solved my own problem with tracks and routes. Was under the impression that the files saved on the unit itself unless told otherwise...yep, they saved to my sd card (in gpx formate no less ;), Thanks Sockeye). Been a snap happy fool too and it is fortunate that the card is 16gig 😀

In fact I did try that with no joy. I have both a track and a route saved on the unit. Going through and selecting gpx will not allow you to see the files that are saved on the unit. Strangely enough, though the track is saved as a kml, the route folder remains empty dispite having my saved (and named) route in the gps when I boot it up.

Did you ever try to use the import function? And select GPX?

It works fine.

Came to my attention that there doesn't seem to be a way to transfer routes from the gps unit to vantage point. I've tried myself by saving both a track and a route but neither seem to be picked up when I initiate a import/export. There is not a problem going the other way though.

Vantage Point seems to be made on the "Mac" method, make things super bright and colorful but do not allow for settings to be tweaked. Makes trying to figure out why something that should work, isn't, very hard...:(

I'm new to VP but don't seem to have any specific issues between it and my ex710 with the new version 3.23. I didn't try it with the older version. what ever that was.

Waypoints, tracks, and geocaches seem to transfer fine. Any problems I've incountered I have blamed on a learning curve.

What kind of issues have you had with VP? What should I look out for?

I've got v 3.23 - the upgrade.
My only issue is with Vantage Point but it didn't work with VP before the upgrade either.

I'm still in a discussion with magellan about the error message and operational issues when upgrading to version 3.23.

I still cannot set personal options and get them to survive a power off and restart.

What version do the new units come with?

They tell me that the unit has to be returned to get the previous version and I'm not ready to do that yet.

But out of curiosity I would like to know what version you guys have on your new ex710's

I'm not concerned yet....
I just emailed magellan support with my situation just to let them know and maybe help them fix the problem.

I really like this 710 and don't want anything else. When I got it everything worked great. Only after the "upgrade" did I begin having problems.

I got a phone call yesterday from Magellan customer support to follow up the e-mail response they sent me.
I was told the problem with the update was caused by the update software, not my unit or pc.
They are working on it and will have it fixed soon.

My 710 has had none of the problems that Wanderer describes, in fact I've had no real problems with it at all!

I have to say that Magellan's customer support is a huge improvement over the old days. I bought one of the first exploristXL, every single unit in the first release had to be recalled (bad firmware) but I had to jump through hoops for over a month to get any response from Maggie.
And that response was a terse e-mail with an address to send the unit back. The replacement unit they sent me wouldn't power up, no response for two weeks, so I took it apart and soldered a broken wire to fix it.

MiTAC is so much better than the old outfit that there's no comparison.

I did a 3.23 upgrade as well. I got/did the same as you. Info shows new firmware installed.
I wonder if it was complete. It sure didn't require "fresh batteries"!
Now when I assign short cuts on the one touch menu they don't survive a power off and on. calendar choice and screen brightness also revert to default options.

I didn't do much with the older firmware but I did make one short cut to the compass and it stuck, still there when the others go back to default.

Is there a way to get back to the older firmware?

Mel

edit:
I tried reseting the unit to factory default, removing the SD card and reinstalling the 3.23 upgrade.
Same results."file to large/cold boot" and units looses customized settings after shutting down.

edit2: maggie was no help.
Unit needs to be sent back to get the previous firmware. The default settings work so I'll use them until I can figure out why it can't remember my personal settings.

When I updated the firmware to v 2.23 I got this message on the unit screen - 'File Size too Large Please Cold Boot And Retry'
I held the power button down but it didn't shut down.
So I sent an e-mail to customer support.
Then I pulled the batteries, put them back in and it worked fine with the update installed.

I got a nice helpful response from maggie, pretty quick for a week-end and a new release to work through.

It seems maggie has vastly improved their support from what it was a few years ago. :cheer:

My eX710 arrived today.
I also have been testing and playing with it.
It works really nice!

When I have it connected to pc I just unplug it and it reboots itself.
It works perfectly and shuts down fine.

To scroll a menu keep your finger on the screen and slide it up or down.
With a bit of practice I don't click something by accident, very often.
Scrolling arrows would be much better.

I loaded 8852 caches (all in Massachusetts) using GSAK to GPS.
No problems loading them through GSAK.
It loaded exactly 2000 waypoints, I guess that's the limit?

When I dragged & dropped a GPX file it would load some of the caches and a few waypoints with error message on waypoint name list. After trying 3 or 4 times and getting different numbers of waypoints & caches loaded from the same file I gave up and just used GSAK 'GPS'

I haven't tried loading PQs or through VP and probaly won't, GSAK works nice and fast.

I'll put it through it's paces tomorrow, I'm meeting Randy of cindy&randy from the Triton Forum, he's in Massachusetts for business this week & we are going caching tomorrow.

I'll have more to say later but so far this thing is GREAT !! :woohoo:

My eX610 has just arrived.

I started testing the unit. It works really fine. Appart from many open translation topics (German), I discovered two issues until now:

Maybe we can use this thread to collect the bugs...

(1) After connecting to PC the ex610 sometimes does not show the power-down options when the power button is pressed. It only reacts on the 10sec pressing for reboot. Even after reboot, you cannot shut down the unit and you need to take out the batteries.

(2) May screens having overflowing menue items (e.g. detail map list for selection) there is no scrolling arrow displayed and you need to scroll with moving the finger over the screen. But as all menu items are selectable it is a random result: either some menu item is selected or the page scrolls... I started using my Triton stylus to get this done...
