I really hope they can fix this thing as it may cause big problems on serious trips (as you experienced in the canoe).

I regret that I didn't save the destroyed Unit.xml file. Could be userful (?). If anybody get into this problem soon, I suggest they copy this file so that you can forward it to Magellan.

I forwarded this to Eric, who directed this issue to the developement team. I also added the comment, that our suspect is the unit.xml.

Let's hope, they find something.

even the exmod jumps in later. So there is no chance to do it in the field with total commander 🙁
But I've reported this to Eric 😛

To be honest, I'm glad someone else ran into this problem, because this is a real pain. Hopefully we can get Magellan to look into this seriously.

This bug makes the eXplorist "dangerous" to rely on on serious trips (which I do quite some of). This summer it happened to me twice on trips where it could have given me big problems.

At this point I don't know what causes this problem. I thought I knew, but I'm not able to reproduce the problem when I try.
What I know is that the device destroys the "Unit.xml" and "Unit.bkf" files in the APP directory. I have a copy of these in a separate directory on the unit. Copying these back into the APP directory fixes the problem. But you need a computer to do that... and I assume you don't bring that in you canoe 🙂 (I don't)

We need to get Magellan to look into and fix this problem !

Thanks for the link.
My unit is up and running. Installing the current firmware did not help.
So I deleted everything and used a early backup uf the device. Software 3.63 is looking strange from today.
After 3.63 made the job, I updated again to 6.06.

Today I ran into a issue, I can not reproduce or explain, how it appeared.
The only thing is, that after a few seconds after powering the device on, the device came up with the "wait to connect" screen. But, the only thing is, that there was no cable in the USB-port.
I could find the starting point of my canoe tour with much luck, cause I could not do anything with the eXplorist.
So my question is, if anybody else ran into this issue and what could cause this behavior.
Installing the 6.06 firmware on top did by now not solve this issue! Let's see what happens...
