I'm sorry, I went back and realized my mistake. It is there in the Nav mode, but only when the menus are being disiplayed, but their disappearing with the menus. I'll ask Matt if he'll change that....

David,
When I am in NAV mode, the Map View is in 2D and stays in 2D - it doesn't change to 3D. And the map scale is not there either.

The scale disappears when the unit is in navigational mode only because the nav. prophile defaults the display to the 3D mode which is not linear and therefore really can't be properly scaled. If you want the scale while in NAV mode just go into the map options and chang the map mode to 2D.....

For me anyway the scale while on a route isn't important or needed.
I have the auto zoom set 'on' to give me the best view of the map while I'm moving.
It shows me the distance to the next turn, I'm on a road so that's the distance I care about and if I want to zoom out to look around on the map I'll have to stop driving anyway.

When in trouble or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout

I agree. It would be handy to have, I often look for the scale and it is not there while routing.

With the routing function activated on a 710, why does the "map scale" on the bottom RHS disappear?

It is handy to know the scale - even with routing activated so that we know how far we can zoom in and out.
