Try deleting the UGDS.BIN file in the USR folder of the unit (need to be connected to the PC to do that). I do that frequently now, and the "Rebooting unit to improve performance" now occurs very seldom.
Earlier it happened very often.

It's worth giving it a try.

If you make a backup of your GC then you don't need the link. The last time I had a problem I just copied the backup over what was on my GC and it fixed it in a couple minutes flat...

Yeah...I did the reboot thing. All cache information was still there but was just a bit confused at the time. I also have been getting a more frequent "Rebooting unit to improve performance" happening to me. Not all the time but more than it ever has since I've had it. Sure can't wait till a new firmware is released. These problems are getting OLD! I want some new ones! LOL

I also have had the same thing happen when adding data and like Graham, I have found it to be an indexing problem.
When I shut down and restart it always has come back with all data.
The problem usually, but not always, occurred with low batteries.

I have had it happen, it appears to be an indexing problem, possible around low battery issues (discussed in another thread).

Power the unit down (changing batteries if needed) and I found the cache information is still there.

Graham.

Anytime the unit gets funny I just shut it off and restart it, usually fixes itself. Never lost my caches though !

Ok, this has happened only 1 time since I've had the unit but am wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue. Everything had been fully functional for several hours of caching (had found 10 or so out on a long hike so far) and decided to dump out a heavy cache I had been carrying around with me all day. I had planted one earlier in the day and everything was fine with that one and have done it many times in the past with no problems but on this one it all changed. I went thru the menu system to "add a geocache" and typed in all the pertinent info for this plant and after clicking on "save" it seemed to ....pause.... for a couple seconds longer than usual. Hmm...no big deal I suppose so I continue on my way back toward my vehicle and for some reason or another I decided to check out the area for any caches I'd missed about a mile from that plant I just made and OH MAN! 0/0 caches loaded into unit?!?!?! What the heck? Not that big of a deal I thought but those two caches I just planted, MAN! I don't wanna go all the way back to both of those to get the coords again come on!!!! So, without too much freaking out I decided to do a reboot of the unit and wala...fixed. I'm not really sure what the heck happened but that was a scary moment. I am on the most recent firmware release for the x710 unit and have an 8GB microsd card with custom maps loaded on to it as well as maps loaded onto the main unit. There is sill plenty of space left on both units memory wise after a quick check (since I had recently switched to track sampling at 5 second intervals) just to be sure. Just passed thru a quantum singularity I suppose I really don't know but it hasn't happened since (yet that is) or before that either way. Anyone else experience a temporary memory loss such as this? (not just some senior moment or something LOL).
