With the 5.92 update:

2. Cannot calibrate the compass - keeps saying "Failed. Try again"

Now fixed thanks to Phil reminding us to delete all files (GPX, POI, Images and UGSD) after loading the update.

I've run into a few issues this week. I don't have the slightest indication whether this related to the latest update or not as I've just started using the GPS on cycling outings.

1) On Monday, I was a little over 22 miles into by ride when the Avg Speed calculated display went from 14.2mph to 0.8mph. Distance traveled remained accurate. When I finished the ride 12 miles later, the average had crept up to 1.2mph.

2) At the 12.7 mile mark for my trip today, the trip distance traveled reset to zero. Reviewed the track information and it properly shows the distance traveled.

3) With the 610 connected to the USB port on my workstation in Power Only mode, I pushed the power button and selected connect to PC. The connection was established to the 610 but not to the flash disk.

I thought I had done the procedure Phil talked about when I updated the unit but I didn't clear out routes, tracks, or media. Will do that and continue to use it in cycling mode.

The gps is still unable to reliably detect movement under 1.5 mph. I would really like to be able to use the gps with the compass off. This is my only real issue with the gps, but a big one.

The "Heading" info field on the map screen shows to be a problem that was not there before. Even though the map and compass overlay do a good job of keeping up with direction, the heading can't figure it out after turning. I noticed it takes a mile or two to catch up while I was traveling on the highway today. The directional degrees shown acts like the compass is spinning to calibrate. Took in one geocache today and the compass and distance to end stayed steady and dead on instead of jumping around a bit. This is on a 710, version 5.93, track up orientation, electronic compass to switch on at 1.5 mph.

Okay I think I found a bug -

Under my on touch menu I have created a shortcut for my favorite waypoints, earthcaches, new caches. Once I select a waypoint or geocache and use the map preview button on the page and then try to zoom in (or out) the gps goes back to the map screen. Everything works great if I don't use the shortcuts.

Can anyone else reproduce this?

Yes, I just reproduced it.
Tapping the map preview will cause it to go back to the map screen if you try to pan or zoom.

But, if you hit 'go-to' instead of map preview you will then be able to pan and zoom the map.
The go-to function worked properly in both geocaching and vehicle profile.
Try it and see if you get the same results as I did.

After hitting go I am able to pan the map, and zoom in and out with no problems.

With the 5.92 update:

1. "Next Nearest" function still doesn't work.
2. Cannot calibrate the compass - keeps saying "Failed. Try again"
3. The voice recorder is too sensitive for outside use, but that is not due to the latest update.
4. Adding a WPT still takes too long.
5. Uses a lot of power.
6. Takes too long to start up, but it seems to have improved with the update.
7. Compass sometimes just freezes for a few minutes - obviously when you just get out of the car and need to know which direction you have to head 🙁
8. The background colour of our Oz maps is a dark olive green so it is difficult to see POI's and the name of those POI's.
9. When you create a WPT, the last digit changes by one decimal point when saved.
10. The arrow pointer is too large.

Hi David,

Currently only having two issues;

1. Compass Calibration – My 710 compass is still dropping out of calibration and is often difficult to recalibrate. Depending on the orientation settings either the map spins or the pointer spins. The problem was there before this latest update but the spin rate has increased considerably. I therefore believe Magellan have made some changes in this area with this update but I can’t detect any operational improvement.

2. ‘Next nearest Geocache’ is not working. It will normally working after a new download of caches but after a couple of times through the routine it stops producing the geocache list. I believe the linked list is somehow getting corrupted.

Graham.

The only issue I have with the 5.93 update is that the next nearest cache after marking a cache as found does not work.
I get just 2 or 3 caches on the list or none at all sometimes.
But I have now set a hard button for geocache details so I no longer use the next nearest option any more.

Ok guys, sorry but I've been out of town and in the middle of nowhere so I didn't have WIFI access, though I have been reading the forums via Android. But I need to hear about any issues you're having with the new version 5 firmware. I've already received a couple of private messages concerning a couple of issues, but now it is time to start gather all of the details.

Thanks,
David
