Are the maps loaded to the SD card or internal memory?
Try removing the maps and see if it works.
Or move the maps to the SD card, then remove the card and see if the unit works properly?

When in trouble or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout

I had this problem of the 710 being stuck on the "Waiting to Connect" screen. The unit worked fine after loading the 5.93 firmware, and then I loaded some RMP maps via VP.

I cannot swear to exactly what I did, but I remember unplugging the USB after the download and the "Waiting" screen popped up and stayed on. The unit was totally unresponsive and even removing and replacing the batteries did not help. When the batteries were replaced the Magellan splash screen appeared and then a couple of seconds later the "Waiting" screen again.

Plugging the USB back in would connect to the computer but I could not figure out a way to make the unit to forget about connecting. A reload of the 5.83 firmware finally resolved it.

Does the X10 have a reset like the Tritons? It would be nice if removing the power source could force a hard reboot.

You were more lucky than me... I was not able to update the software before rebuilding the Unit.xml file (as you see in this track)

Yesterday I was a bit Caching with my 710. After several found caches there was the message "wait to connect to computer" on the screen. Unfortunattely I can not recall what I did before. Shutoff and restart ended in reboot and same result. Remove of the batteries ended in the same result. I had to drive home, connect my 710 to the computer and could, without any problem, update the firmware again over vantagepoint.
????
It was a strange experience
